Until recently the global hunger was in decline, but since 2014 it’s been rising. 800 million people already go to bed hungry every night (The Economist). Hunger is not only about food. Hunger is one of the most difficult problem to solve that came into our world. According to “World food programme” 266 million people at risk of acute hunger in 2026. There is one person dying from hunger every minute across Ethiopia, Kenya and Somalia. In west Africa. (DW News)
Unfortunately in today’s world money is essential for accessing many basic necessities. That is not the choice, this is our reality. People who chase money forget, that in our world we have the same people, with the same rights but without such opportunities as wealthy people have. Governments may struggle to address starvation because doing so requires significant financial and political resources.
So why we can’t change the rules and make food free? To be honest that is not that simple. If they do it the economy would be negatively affected in the whole world and it is disadvantageous for everyone. If the food was free, people would literally fight with each other, and maybe take the most expensive thing that we have, it’s our life.
A lot of children, adults, elderly have to beg another people for money to buy just bread or water. Food is a basic necessity. All people must have this opportunity and they mustn’t think about how to get some money to feed their family.
Long story short why can’t food simply be free? Who will pay this people that work really hard for us, to give ourselves food, farmers, fishermen. What if free food leads us to a shortage of it? What will happen with our grocery stores?A lot of questions and few answers.
I know one solutioun. Charitable giving from people who have the opportunity to give other people the access to food. But will charity organisations help us solve this massive problem?Don’t think so. Of course It will make a very big step towards the disappearance of hunger forever, but what if this steps isn’t enough for solving this problem?
Basically charity can help people survive these days, but for long-term solutions necessities cooperation between governments, communities and international organisations to work on this problem together. For this really big problem we need more attention. People mustn’t stay starving every day. We should have the balance.
Do you have any ideas for solving this global problem? Even your dollar can change the life for a lot of people. Hunger is a problem created and sustained by economic, social and political conditions. We understand that solving it won’t be simple, but ignoring it is not a solution. Together we will do it.
